The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) was introduced as a cybersecurity framework for US defense contractors with the first issue released in January 2020. The aim of the program is to increase resilience against cyber-attacks throughout the defense industrial base (DIB) and it is designed to protect sensitive unclassified information, such as CUI (controlled unclassified information) and FCI (federal contracting information), that the DoD shares with contractors and subcontractors.
