Written by Titania | July 01, 2025

Our product roadmap is dedicated to the devices, environments, risk management frameworks, and regulatory challenges you care about.

Please note: This post was originally published July 01, 2025. Last update July 28, 2025.

The last Nipper release (v3.8.0) included support for Ubuntu and the enablement of Command Line Interface for Nipper v3.

In addition, CIS Benchmark reporting was added for Fortinet and Cisco IOS XE devices, and device support extended for Watchguard and FortiGate. You can see the full release notes for Nipper, v3.8.0 here.

In this blog, we overview the new features and enhancements in Nipper, v.3.9.0.

1. Extended device support, including SonicWall and Sophos

This release enables you to get accurate Vulnerability Assessments for an even wider range of network devices, including:

  • SonicWall
  • Sophos
  • Aruba

The latest recommended versions of Cisco IOS XE and Palo Alto PanOS have also been added.

If you’re still using Nipper v2 to audit devices now supported in Nipper v3, you could be missing out on the latest version’s new features. You can reach out to our friendly Support Team with any questions – we’re happy to help.

2. CIS Benchmarks reporting for Juniper OS Benchmark v2.1.0 and Palo Alto Firewall 11 Benchmark v1.1.0

The CIS Benchmarks are community-developed secure configuration recommendations for hardening organizations’ technologies against cyber-attacks.  Mapped to the CIS Critical Security Controls, the CIS Benchmarks elevate the security defenses for network devices.

Compliance with these benchmarks has become pivotal in helping organizations meet various compliance regulations. It also helps to instill confidence among stakeholders and customers regarding your commitment to safeguarding against cyber threats.

The previous Nipper release introduced CIS Benchmark reporting for Fortinet and Cisco IOS XE devices.

v3.9.0 extends this to Juniper OS Benchmark v2.1.0 and Palo Alto Firewall 11 Benchmark v1.1.0, enabling you to check these devices for vulnerabilities against the benchmarks.

3. More ways to save your reports

Our engineering team have been working hard to bring the following new save options to v3.9.0:

  • Save reports to PDF
  • Save Security Recommendations to CSV
  • Save Security Issues to CSV
  • Within the Vulnerability Report, you will be able to save NVD Recommendations to CSV.

(Bug fix: The missing tables in Save to CSV will be rectified too)

4. IP and CVSS calculations and password decoders

Users appreciated having these network security tools in Nipper v2, so we’ve added the following functionality to the latest version of the software:

  • IP calculator
  • CVSS calculator
  • Password decoders
